More about Green Briar Natue Center

The Maple Street Inn is a member of the Thorton Burgess Society-we support the work that is done there. Thorton Burgess was born in Sandwich. He wrote Children's books-170 of them. His purpose was to nurture the appreciation of nature in youngsters at an early age." The Adventures of Peter Cottontail" and "Old Mother West Wind" are two favorites. As he has said,"to inspire reverence for wildlife and concern for the natural environment", was the goal of his work. The Green Briar Center carries on this goal. Jelly Kitchen, Nature Trails, Flower Garden, workshops, lectures and outdoor activities-birdwatching, canoeing, etc.are ongoing all summer.

  1. What a great organization, real cool. I fondly remember reading Burgess' works when I was kid, and am hoping to write and illustrate children's books soon..perhaps as a result of those books I loved when I was smaller. It is great that the society puts so much importance on outdoor activities; I really like that.
My name is Marc, and aside from being a hopeful children's story book writer, I also work for Bescover -- where we love all things B&B! It's truly a privilege being a part of your online community.
