ABOUGHT THE HERITAGE MUSEUM
Charles Dexter bought the land in Sandwich ,which eventually became the Heritage Museum, in 1921. He owned a cotton textile company in New Bedford and spent summers in Sandwich. Dring that time he grew vegetables and plants. His interest in flowers and plants led him to develope several varieties of rododendrons. He gave many away and he didn't record his methods. After his death, the land was bought and sold many times before Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Lilly III who founded Heritage Museums & Gardens purchased the land. There are spectacular rhododendrons growing there and the display is stunning. more at http://www.heritagemuseumsandgardens.org/

More about Green Briar Natue Center
The Maple Street Inn is a member of the Thorton Burgess Society-we support the work that is done there. Thorton Burgess was born in Sandwich. He wrote Children's books-170 of them. His purpose was to nurture the appreciation of nature in youngsters at an early age." The Adventures of Peter Cottontail" and "Old Mother West Wind" are two favorites. As he has said,"to inspire reverence for wildlife and concern for the natural environment", was the goal of his work. The Green Briar Center carries on this goal. Jelly Kitchen, Nature Trails, Flower Garden, workshops, lectures and outdoor activities-birdwatching, canoeing, etc.are ongoing all summer.

Summer Is In The Air
Len and I spent a lovely evening on Sandyneck Beach. We bought our dinner at Amari's and found a lovely spot with a Cape Cod Bay view! Dinner by the bay on an unseasonably warm May evening, what a joy!
